Right to work check changes from 6 April 2022

From 6 April 2022, BRC and BRP holders will only be allowed to prove their eligibility to work through the Home Office online service. Employers can no longer accept physical BRPs and BRCs as evidence of the right to work. This applies even where such a document states a later expiry date.

The employer must complete the online Right to Work check by entering the individual’s details on the ‘checker’ section of the Home Office right to work website. Guidance on the online RTW portal is available here

The changes will not apply retrospectively. BRP and BRC card ‘manual’ RTW checks made before 6 April 2022 are still regarded as acceptable.
